I am not an easily angered person. Today, I almost blew my top at an absolutely infuriating PACU nurse. She treated me like crap, and when I suggested that her patient should stay on the ventilator, she looked me in the eye and ripped the ET tube out. I yelled at her to stop and deflate the cuff, and she ripped the pilot balloon off and spat “we don’t do it that way here” at me. I told my supervisor, and she told me to fill out an incident report and then abandon all hope. Her exact words were “The PACU here is ridiculous. They’re so backwards and they refuse to change.” I guess the PACU is the “hell unit” of the house…next time I see that nurse we will be having words.

No matter what your job is, or will be, there are always those at work who will do it “the wrong way…and what do you have to say about it?!”
It’s hard, but if you focus on the patient, and their safety, you will never be wrong. Your actions will always be honorable and defensible.
Was the patient OK? Then OK, go through channels if you want, Don Quixote.
Bullies can abound in the hospital workplace, and seem to thrive near surgical areas. Correct me if I’m wrong.
Don’t get any black marks if you can, my friend. You’re only passing through that place, aren’t you?

Wow, what a beeyatch she is! Tearing off the pilot balloon is just bad form. How many times have you seen the tubing from it kinked while taping - oops, oh well, inflated cuff, damaged cords! I don’t think so!!

SET HER STRAIGHT, but be careful arguing with an idiot!

Oh for pity’s sake.
I hate nurses like that, they give the rest of us a bad name. And I would definately go have words with the crazy biotch. She obviously DOES NOT have the best interest of the patient at heart. I’d take that complaint to the top of the food chain. . .

What is the saying…something like: Don’t argue with a moron. They drag you down to their level, then beat you with experience.

That said, go for it, my friend. Oh, and I know you absolutely don’t get angry often, so I’d looooove to be a fly on the wall for that one.

Ohmygawd, what a witch. That wasn’t about patient care, that was about her need to have a power play over you. I can’t stand people like that!
